OSX vs Windows

Mac users are forever telling me that their OSX is far more secure than Windows but is that entirely true?

Its certainly the truth, as far as I can tell, that Macs are less targeted than machines that use the Microsoft operating system.

The question, however, would be whether or not that is because Windows itself is less secure or whether there may be another reason for that.

My belief is that Windows machines are targeted far more often simply because there are far more of them in circulation.

Contrary to what some people may have you believe, the Mac is not completely immune to the various threats that manifest themselves on the internet today.

With the popularity of the Apple Mac growing will this mean an increase in the amount of malware that targets it? I certainly think so.

Another factor to consider is that those behind the various forms of malware are no longer single teenagers with a warped sense of fun.

Today's malware is, instead, written by large and well organised gangs of cyber criminals.

Such well organised people have all the resources they need to branch off into other areas and that includes developing malware for the Mac.

After all, if they write a Trojan for a Windows machine then how hard would it be to modify it to affect an Apple Mac? The potential profits are huge and the increasing number of Macs in use makes it worth their while.

For that reason I believe it is only a matter of time before the Mac receives it's own fair share of malware. Are you prepared for that?
